These dentures are made to fit the anatomy of the jaws and oral muscles. Another solution is a snap-on denture. With these, implants are placed in the jaws, onto which the dentures snap into place. Every mouth and jaw is unique, so fabricating dentures requires meticulous precision. This precision begins with an initial impression using standard trays. A plaster model is created in the dental laboratory, from which a custom tray is crafted. Using the plastic tray, the dentist takes a precision impression using silicone impression material. This impression primarily determines the margins of your teeth. Determining your bite is also important: how do your jaws fit together? The dentist will discuss the color and shape of your new teeth with you. After gathering all this information, you can try on your first denture. We'll make several adjustments over several appointments until the final plastic result can be fabricated.
Currently, 75% of the cost of a full denture is covered by your health insurance's basic coverage. Whether you receive the remaining 25% depends on your supplementary health insurance. Reimbursement under basic coverage varies from once every five to once every eight years. You will receive 100% reimbursement for necessary repairs to your dentures. Please note that basic coverage still has a standard deductible, starting at €385 per year. Check with your health insurer to determine your coverage.
At first, your dentures may feel uncomfortable. They attach themselves to your jaw, potentially causing sensitive sores. Your dentist can adjust your dentures here and there to relieve these pressure points. However, dentures are easiest to get used to if you continue wearing them.
Dentures should be cleaned just like natural teeth. Don't use regular toothpastes, but special cleaning agents. These are available at drugstores or pharmacies. You should also keep your gums clean to prevent inflammation. Our dental hygienist can provide you with additional hygiene tips.
Finally, even with dentures or clip-on dentures, you should have an annual checkup so your dentist can assess the condition of your dentures and whether they need to be adjusted in the meantime.
